Luke Chambers: I couldn't leave Kilmarnock behind for World Cup in relegation fight

Luke Chambers says he didn't even consider ditching Kilmarnock for a World Cup bow.

The on-loan Liverpool star turned down the chance to feature for England's Under-20s in Argentina this month, admitting he wouldn't leave Killie in their time of need.

The Ayrshire side have three games to secure their Scottish Premiership status, and Chambers had no thoughts about jumping on the plane to South America ahead of this weekend's clash with St Johnstone.

He said: “I love it here and I wouldn’t change that for anything.

“Obviously it’s disappointing to be missing the World Cup, but what Kilmarnock have done for me I couldn’t just walk out on them with three big games to go.

"What the club have done for me since the first day I walked through the door has been great. They’ve been really helpful, I’ve got what I’ve needed from the loan and hopefully with these games coming up we can pick up some points.

"I was always going to stay here – it wasn’t that difficult a decision and I’m happy.

"It would mean so much to help the club stay up. I’ve only been here a short period of time but the attachment I’ve got is massive. I’ve endless amount of respect for the gaffer, the players and the fans. Everyone’s helped me and I want to help the club pick up as many points as I can."

He added: "England have been very understanding, they knew in January when I came on loan that the dates would cross. They left it to me to decide and they agreed with my decision.

"I don’t feel as though I’ve burned any bridges, I’ve a good connection with the England manager Ian Foster so he understands why I’ve made the decision."
