Luke Ayling sends touching tribute as ex-Leeds United captain Pontus Jansson announces move

Former Leeds United captain Pontus Jansson will leave Brentford at the end of the season and return to his former club Malmo. Jansson has spent the past four seasons with the Bees after joining them from Leeds in 2019.

He helped guide the Brentford to promotion via the Championship play-offs in 2021, and has amassed 115 appearances for the London outfit. The Sweden international initially joined Leeds on loan from Torino in 2016, before he signed on a permanent basis in February 2017.

The 32-year-old scored nine goals in 120 appearances for the Whites, and was named in the PFA Team of the Year in two of his three seasons at Elland Road.

Jansson broke the news on his official Instagram account, and Leeds right-back Luke Ayling sent a touching tribute to his former teammate in the comments section.

"What a man. Congratulations on a great spell in a great career. All the best to you and your family in your next chapter," Ayling wrote.

The defender will return to Malmo where he started his professional career back in 2009. He made 128 appearances for the Swedish heavyweights across all competitions and lifted three league titles in the process.
