Lukasz Fabianski joked he has a “thing for bad penalties” when reflecting on Jorginho’s effort at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian international, once so reliable from the spot, saw a weak effort easily saved by the West Ham goalkeeper, although Chelsea would go on to win following a late Christian Pulisic goal.
The 30-year-old also missed from 12 yards twice while on international duty for the Italian national team as their World Cup qualifying campaign came to a surprising end.
FabiaÅski was also between the sticks when Ademola Lookman attempted a paneka while a Fulham player in November 2020, an effort so bad the West Ham ‘keeper had enough time to get back and make the save after diving the wrong way.
Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness lamented Jorginho’s spot-kick as “pathetic” and the midfielder only had his blushes spared when Pulisic swept home a late winner to stop the rot for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Speaking after the game, FabiaÅski said: “To be honest, I have this thing for some really bad penalties.
“If you look at last season, the Lookman penalty wasn’t a good one as well. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s my presence or something that scares them!”
