Luka Modric drops major Chelsea transfer hint after sparkling in Champions League defeat

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric admitted that he watches Chelsea ‘a lot’ after playing a starring role in the Blues’ Champions League defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Croatian playmaker was in stunning form as Los Blancos defeated the reigning European champions in Spain.

Thomas Tuchel’ s men had actually raced into a 3-0 lead and looked en-route to their second-consecutive semi-final place thanks to goals from Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner. However, Rodrygo hauled the hosts level from aggregate as he fired home a stunning outside-of-the-boot pass from Modric before Karim Benzema had yet another say following his Stamford Bridge hat-trick with an extra-time winner.

Of course, Modric did not get on the scoresheet himself but he was a pivotal performer for Carlo Ancelotti ’s men. Speaking with CBS after the final whistle, he gave his verdict on the Blues and even suggested that he is an avid watcher of Thomas Tuchel’s men.

The Croatian said: “They are a very good side. They are the most complicated rival we could face, for me. I watch them a lot because of my friend Mateo [Kovacic].

“I watch them a lot so I know how good they are, physical team and they have so many talented players. I knew it was going to be complicated and it was not over before first result.”

Chelsea supporters will certainly hope that Modric’s current affection for the west Londoners could potentially help them seal his services sooner rather than later. Whilst the one-time Ballon d’Or winner hasn’t been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge as of yet, his future at the Santiago Bernabeu is up in the air.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and could potentially bring to an end his decade-long association with Real should he elect to leave. Mundo Deportivo suggest that the Spanish giants are relaxed over the situation but having been on the end of his masterclass, Chelsea could well look to profit from Modric’s expiring deal and indeed his current viewership.
