Luis Suarez wanted for emotional return as ex-Liverpool star ponders next move

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is a wanted man this summer following the expiration of his contract at Atletico Madrid and he could return to his homeland with the club he began his professional career.

The 35-year-old made the move to Europe and in 2006 after he came through the youth set-up at Nacional in Uruguay's capital city of Montevideo. After just under five years in the Netherlands, with Groningen and then Ajax, Suarez joined Liverpool in 2011 before he eventually made the move to Barcelona and, later, Atletico Madrid.

Now he's available on a free transfer this summer and there has been widespread speculation over his future. Most recently, reports suggested he had been 'offered' to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, who are 'considering' the move.

However, they're not the only potential destination as Spanish outlet MARCA reported this week Nacional are also working to bring him back to the club after 16 years. The club's president Jose Fuente is said to have flown out to Spain in order to convince Suarez on the move.

The news sparked plenty of reaction on social media with supporters of the Uruguayan Primera Division club sharing the hashtag 'SuarezANacional'. Earlier in the summer, Suarez had been linked with a move to Argentina side River Plate, but he later ruled it out after they were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.

A move back to South America is still on the cards, though, despite the player's reported preference to remain in Europe. Suarez played just one season in Nacional's first team before he headed abroad to Dutch side Groningen.
