Luis Enrique responds to speculation linking him with Manchester United manager's job

Spain boss Luis Enrique has ruled out a possible move to Manchester United at the end of the season.

The former Barcelona chief is preparing his side for the next instalment of the UEFA Nations League this summer, with all eyes then set to turn to the World Cup later this year. Alvaro Morata's 86th-minute winner against Sweden back in November was enough to seal his side's place at this winter's competition. Spain will be looking to improve on their Euro 2020 disappointment after being dumped out at the semi-final stage by Italy.

United's managerial pursuit is hotting up as Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino remain frontrunners in the race for the Old Trafford dugout. The Dutchman is still United's preferred candidate for the role.

Reports elsewhere have suggested that Enrique was also on United's list of candidates alongside Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui. However, speaking ahead of Spain's upcoming friendly with Iceland, Enrique quashed any such talk. He said (via AS ): "I will be in Qatar with Spain because I have given my word and there is nothing that makes me more excited than representing my country in the World Cup. Later, we'll see.

"And even more so with this national team and with this federation. I can say it louder, but not more clearly. I'm where I want to be".
