Luis Diaz sparks Colombia pitch invasion as Liverpool star copies team-mate's trick on home visit

Liverpool star Luis Diaz played a few minutes of a football match in his homeland on Friday.

In a video shared on social media by Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, the 25-year-old scored a goal before pitch invaders flooded the field to celebrate. Diaz also showcased his skills in other videos and completed a famous 'no look' pass.

The match took place at the Federico Serrano Soto Stadium in Riohacha, La Guajira in northern Colombia. It was the official re-opening of the ground after it had been closed for various renovations.

Diaz grew up in Barrancas, a town roughly two hours from the city of Riohacha. Stars of the region, past and present, took to the field on Friday.

The Liverpool star returned to his hometown of Barrancas earlier this month where footage emerged of him walking around and greeting locals. Diaz represented both Barranquilla and Atletico Junior in his home nation before he made the move to Europe to join Porto in 2019.

He later made the move to Merseyside in January of this year and made 26 appearances in all competitions for the Reds. In his first few months at Anfield, he scored six goals and registered five assists.

The player's mother told Colombian magazine Semana in May that he had settled in well at Liverpool: "He is maturing; I see him more serene in everything he does, very disciplined in everything. He is very serious, and responsible in all his work, and that’s why he has done so well.

"He tells me, ‘The manager likes me; when I play my games, he hugs me' - and he has also been able to get along with his team-mates. They welcome him for being the way he is."
