Luis Diaz's promise to Liverpool fans after unveiling and first training session

Liverpool new boy Luis Diaz declared he will "give absolutely everything" to make the Anfield faithful proud as he was officially unveiled on Friday.

Diaz, 25, joined the Reds from Porto in a surprise transfer at the end of the January window for an initial fee of £37.5million which could rise to £50million with add-ons.

The highly-regarded winger was away with the Colombia national team at the time of his signing but touched down on Merseyside on Thursday.

He arrived at Liverpool's Kirkby base the following day to meet manager Jurgen Klopp and his new teammates before undertaking an individual training session.

Few Premier League viewers watch much of the Portuguese top flight, where Diaz has excelled for two-and-a-half years, so he was eager to tell Liverpool fans what to expect from him in his first interview.

"I think I can bring a lot to the team in terms of my pace and my skill and technique on the ball and ability to dribble," Diaz told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I think they are a couple of my strengths. Also, I can score goals.

"In addition to that, I just want to send a message to the fans to say hello and if you keep supporting us, like you always have done, I know you’re a great set of fans and I am going to give absolutely everything I’ve got, 100 per cent, to help my team as much as I can and hopefully make you really happy."

Diaz scored 16 goals in 28 appearances for Porto this season while also chipping in with nine assists, but Klopp is likely to ease him into action as he usually does with new arrivals.

The prospect of being coached by the German helped convince the forward, who is right-footed but plays on the left wing, to make the move to Liverpool.

"It excites me a lot knowing that I am going to have a manager of that standing and stature," Diaz added.

""You could see that for yourself both times we came up against Liverpool with Porto [in this season's Champions League group stage], you could tell he was a good person and that not only on the football side of things, but he takes care of the personal side of things as well.

"At first it is going to be a settling-in period and a chance to grow alongside my teammates and the manager and his coaching staff.

"As you say, he is going to help me a lot, so I am really happy to be here sharing that experience with him. Here is hoping that helps me a lot in my career as a professional player."
