Luigi Mangione Shouts At Reporters While Being Dragged Into Court As New Details Emerge

Luigi Mangione, the internet’s new crush who is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has appeared in court after being arrested at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s and charged with murder.

The 26-year-old struggled with police and shouted angrily while being escorted to court for his hearing, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit.

Upon arrival, Mangione clocked the reporters and cameras eagerly anticipating his arrival and began shouting. The only words that were intelligible were: “insult to the intelligence of the American people”.

During the appearance, however, Mangione remained mostly silent — he stared ahead and occasionally read through papers. Although at one point, he spoke out but was silenced by his lawyer.

The hearing was brief, with the defence lawyer telling the court that Mangione would not waive extradition to New York but instead wants a hearing on the issue. He now has 14 days to challenge detention.

New York police say they will investigate whether or not Mangione’s chronic back pain was the reason behind the alleged killing of the healthcare CEO last week.

The New York Times reported that friends of Mr Mangione had confirmed he had been suffering from significant back pain.

Appearing on Good Morning America, New York Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny has revealed he read Mangione’s manifesto that he was carrying when he was arrested, and it showed he was “frustrated with the health care system in the United States”.

“Specifically, he states how we are the number one most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet the life expectancy of an American is ranked 42 in the world,” Chief Kenny said.

“So he was writing a lot about his disdain for corporate America and in particular healthcare.”

It’s unclear when Mangione will be extradited to New York.

“We don’t know exactly what the timing is,” Commissioner Tisch said. “We’ll see how the extradition hearing goes.”
