Ludhiana: Man, aides booked for murder of stepfather

LUDHIANA: The Samrala police on Sunday afternoon booked a man and his accomplices for the murder of his stepfather in Manupur village. The accused have been identified as Amrik Singh, stepson of deceased Avtar Singh, 65, Avtar’s son Jaspreet Singh of Fatehgarh Sahib, and two others.

Bardhala police post in-charge ASI Jagwinder Singh said, “Amrik ran a tractor over Avtar on Sunday. Jaspreet, along with his accomplices, cremated the body at a ground in Manupur to eliminate evidence.”

Police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC against the accused.

Investigating officer sub-inspector Amrik Singh said, “A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused. After the death of accused Amrik’s father Bhupinder Singh, his mother was married to Bhupinder’s brother Avtar. The couple has two children, Jaspreet and a daughter. The murder motive is yet to be established. Things will become clear after the arrest of the accused.”
