Lucknow: ‘Rangshree’ brings forth plight of theatre artists

LUCKNOW: A play ‘Rangshree’, depicting the plight of theatre artistes and corruption in a department, was staged in the Valmiki Rangshala of UP Sangeet Natak Akademi on Tuesday.

The play revolves around the lives of hard-working artistes with the help of the protagonist Sushma (Manju Gupta) who has given about 45 years of her life to the field. However, the corrupt system of Kalakaar Vibhag doesn’t acknowledge the contribution of hard-working artistes.

Things change when an honest officer, Talbhot, played by Shakti Mishra, is appointed secretary of the department. He fights against corruption despite the hurdles created by the corrupt employees. He manages to get Sushma selected for the Rangshree award, but by that time she passes away. The play was written and directed by Shubham Pandey. It was organized by Rangsangam Sansthan.
