Lucknow: Mom’s ‘gift’ helps 9-year-old get back on feet after liver transplant

LUCKNOW: For Ekta Singh, it was like giving birth to her son again. She saved the life of her 9-year-old son Tejas suffering from stage liver disease by donating 40% of her liver. The lifesaving surgery was successfully performed at Medanta Hospital about two months ago and the duo came for a follow-up examination on Friday. Doctors said that both the woman and her son are now fine.

In April, Ekta was shell shocked when doctors told her that her only child was suffering from acute liver failure triggered by Hepatitis A virus – a rare infection in children that occurs to one in every two lakh children. Doctors said that he can be saved only by a liver transplant. It took her a fraction of a second to agree to donate a part of her liver.
