Lucas Paqueta, Nayef Aguerd, Gianluca Scamacca - West Ham injuries ahead of Tottenham fixture

West Ham United will be looking to extend their unbeaten run when they head to rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers are in an upturn in form at present and despite sitting 16th in the table and clear of the relegation zone by just two points, they are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions, coming from behind to hold Newcastle United and Chelsea to 1-1 draws in their last two games.

Ahead of the London derby, here is a look at West Ham’s current list of absentees.

Maxwel Cornet (calf)

Having returned to training with the rest of the group at the end of November, winger Maxwel Cornet remains out of action.

Cornet has not featured since making his full Premier League debut for West Ham on October 1, and has been out of action for more than four months, with Moyes still unsure of when Cornet will return fully.

Ahead of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, Moyes said Cornet had suffered an illness, but that progress is being made on his recovery as he remains in Paris for rehabilitation work. “Still in France, said Moyes. “Been unwell for a couple of days. No [update] except for he's getting better.”

Gianluca Scamacca (knee)

Striker Gianluca Scamacca is currently on the treatment table after suffering a knee injury. The Italian, who has scored seven goals this season, has missed the last four matches with the injury first sustained during the 2-2 draw at Leeds United over a month ago.

Speaking ahead of the draw with Chelsea, Moyes said he had hoped Scamacca would return to training later this week.

“We’re hoping that maybe some time next week we might get Gianluca back, maybe middle of next week sometime,” said Moyes. “When I say back, I mean back in training.”

Kurt Zouma (thigh)

Having only returned from a two-month absence due to knee surgery in the win over Everton last month, French centre-back Kurt Zouma is now back on the treatment table.

The former Chelsea defender suffered a small tear in his thigh in the first half of the win over his former side Everton but played the duration of the match.

Speaking on Zouma, ahead of facing the defender’s former club, Moyes said he was unsure of when Zouma may return.

Alphonse Areola (hamstring)

Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola missed the meetings with Newcastle and Chelsea with a hamstring injury suffered in training.

The French World Cup winner, who has been a back-up to Lukasz Fabianski since the start of last season, is yet to start a Premier League match.

His absence led to manager Moyes naming third-choice goalkeeper Joseph Anang and academy stopper Krisztian Hegyi both on the bench in each of the last two games.

Areola was pictured back in training by the club on Monday, a sign that he is potentially over his hamstring issue.

Aaron Cresswell (virus)

West Ham’s vice-captain Aaron Cresswell has recently lost his place in the Hammers side but was not involved in the squad in the draw with Chelsea.

Cresswell’s absence saw West Ham name just eight out of a possible nine substitutes for the game, including goalkeeping duo Anang and Hegyi.

Speaking on his absence, Moyes told football.london : “Aaron Cresswell had a virus as well, he’s probably been ill for three or four days.” The same virus affected Hammers captain Declan Rice, but the midfielder played the duration of Saturday’s London derby.

Lucas Paqueta (shoulder)

Early into the first half against Chelsea, Brazilian midfielder and potential club-record signing (if add-ons are triggered), Lucas Paqueta was forced off with a shoulder issue.

After landing awkwardly when contesting for the ball, Paqueta was in discomfort with his right shoulder, having suffered a collarbone injury in a similar spot in October.

Speaking after the draw with Chelsea, Moyes said he did not know the severity of the issue and admitted there were concerns about a reaggravation of his issue from earlier this season.

“Losing Paqueta was a blow but we don’t know the answer yet,” said Moyes. “I don’t know, I haven’t asked the medical team but obviously, it’s a shoulder injury. I don’t know if he’s popped his shoulder or if it’s just the way he feels, I’ve not got the answer to that yet.”

Moyes added when football.london asked about it being similar to his last shoulder issue: “That’s exactly right, that’s what we’re worried about. I’ve not had a chance to talk to the medical team to see what they are saying about it.”

Nayef Aguerd (groin)

Moroccan international centre-back Nayef Aguerd was forced off with ten minutes to go against the Blues with a groin issue.

Like Paqueta, Moyes did not know the severity of the injury, with Aguerd seeing much of his debut season at West Ham so far disrupted via injury.
