Luca Bish claims Gemma Owen split was 'mutual decision' as he admits to 'emotional afternoon'

Luca Bish has broken his silence on his split from Gemma Owen, telling fans that their break-up was a 'mutual decision' and wishing her all the best for the future.

Brighton fishmonger Luca and Gemma, 19, daughter of football icon Michael Owen, weren't coupled up to begin with on the latest series of Love Island, but quickly got together after he confessed his feelings for her on the roof terrace at the end of their first week in the villa.

The couple's time on the ITV dating show wasn't without its bumps in the roads, with Love Island viewers claiming that Luca was giving them 'serious red flags' with some of his behaviour, willing Gemma to end things and move on. However, despite their troubles, Luca and Gemma stayed together and made it all the way to the final, finishing in second place behind Davide and Ekin-Su, despite not being 'official' by the time the series ended.

Things eventually developed into full blown relationship outside of the villa, when Luca staged a very romantic evening to ask Gemma to be his girlfriend and both of them have posted a series of photos of them together on their Instagram accounts over the last few months,

However, less than four months after the Love Island finale, Luca and Gemma have gone their separate ways. It was Gemma who made the announcement first, before Luca took to his instagram story late on Wednesday night to give his side of the story, writing "Switched my phone back on after taking some time out to clear my head after an emotional afternoon to thousands of messages about my breakup,"

He continued: ""As you all already know, sadly, Gemma and I made the mutual decision earlier today to go our separate ways.

"We have been on such a journey together and have made some amazing memories… we will remain good friends and I wish nothing but the best for her."

A few hours earlier Gemma posted: ""To all my followers, I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship. It wasn't an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for us both right now.

"Many of you have been on this journey with us from the beginning, and I wanted to thank you for your continued support as we start our new chapters."
