
New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, during a meeting with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the UK House of Commons, in London on Wednesday, praised the Election Commission of India's exemplary record in conducting free, fair and impartial elections, underscoring the strength of India's democracy with nearly one billion voters.
Lok Sabha Speaker also highlighted the increasing participation of women in the electoral process as a testament to its inclusivity. Mentioning that India is celebrating 75 years of adoption of the Constitution, Birla said that the Constitution of India has brought transformative socio-economic changes in the country. He expressed hope that India will be a developed country by 2047 - the centenary year of India’s independence.
