Love Story is Bringing Back '90s Minimalism – Here's How to Get the Look of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and JFK Jr.'s Tribeca Loft

Sarah pidgeon and paul anthony kelly at the love story premiere.

Just like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's quiet luxury style, the sartorial universe of the fictionalized show about her and JFK Jr.'s love story is utterly timeless. Audiences online are gushing about the set design for JFK Jr.'s Tribeca loft, and who can blame them? The space feels elevated, stylish, and original.

Though the death of minimalism has been much discussed over the past year, the praise for Love Story's interiors indicates a revival of the look, albeit in an updated format. Take, for instance, the dining room of the show's loft. It has white walls, industrial lighting, and dark floors. Warm and inviting mid-century modern style furnishings bring in a touch of curvature and intentionality. A china cabinet in the background hints at tradition while still keeping the space quite modern.

So, how do we emulate the gorgeous '90s look in our own homes? To explore, here's a peek inside the Tribeca loft set on Love Story, and an edit of products with a similar feel to those in the space. I also sourced expert quotes on the direction minimalism is moving in 2026.

Recreate The Kennedy Look at Home

As opposed to the minimalism of the early 2020s, this retro take on the look is cozier, and more inviting, as embodied by Love Story's interiors. Dark tones in the dining room help to create this balance. Shelley Cochrane, design expert at Furniture Village explains: 'The trend for minimal interiors is very much here to stay, but color trends of late have seen a warmer and softer take on the look come to the forefront. Sand and stone shades are great neutral base tones, but incorporating brown into the scheme will help to bring depth and warmth to the space creating the perfect minimal, yet soulful colour palette.'

She continues: 'Brown’s earthy connotations instantly add a grounding and organic influence to your space, helping to cultivate a relaxing atmosphere. My favourite way to incorporate brown is in the dining room. Use natural materials like a wooden dining table and combine with a textural jute rug and rustic tableware. Layering various shades of brown from sweet caramels to deep oak makes the overall look feel cohesive and instantly relaxing, perfect for an updated take on the minimalist dining room.'

Though minimalism may fade in and out of popularity, it will never go fully out of style. This year, it's melding with the resurgence of '90s color trends.
