Love Lane Brewery saved from closure by former Iceland boss

A Liverpool venue has been saved from closing its doors forever after a former Iceland boss invested £300,000.

Nick Canning has helped save Love Lane Brewery through a pre-pack administration deal overseen by Steven Muncaster and Steve Clancy in the Manchester office of Kroll.

The deal has been revealed in newly-filed documents with Companies House and show that Love Lane Brewing Ltd, a subsidiary of Higsons 1780, entered administration on June 20. The business then changed its name to LLB Realisations Ltd.

Based in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, Love Lane Brewery is also a gin distillery, a bar and restaurant as well as an events space.

The documents filed with Companies House also reveal that Mr Canning is now a director of Higsons 1780 after he invested £300,000 for 60,000 additional shares.

Before that, Mr Canning had held 28,000 shares in the business.

The investor served as joint managing director of Iceland Foods from July 2014 to when he left the business in September 2017.

He was also chairman of the company's charitable foundation from March 2012.

Mr Canning also served as executive director for people and customers from January 2003 to June 2014.

He has also held roles for the likes of KP Foods, United Biscuits and News International.

Higsons 1780 was founded by Stephen Crawley in February 2017 who also serves as the company's chief executive.

Mr Crawley also founded Love Land Brewing in November 2018 and is also its CEO.

Love Lane Brewery and Kroll have been contacted by the ECHO for comment.
