Love Island star Jacques O'Neill and his mum speak out about recent death threats

Love Island star Jacques O'Neill and his mum have reportedly been getting death threats since he left the Mallorca villa.

The professional rugby player, who has ADHD, decided to quit the show last week due to his mental health suffering in the villa.

On arrival back home, Jacques admitted the show had left him "broken" and he blasted producers for trying to pressure him into staying.

His mum Janet Wright, has now revealed that she had to move out of her home due to messages she was being sent after he cheated on his partner Paige Thorne, kissing air hostess Cheyanne Kerr during the week of Casa Amor.

The 60-year-old told the Sun: "During the first two weeks Jacques was so funny, I think everybody loved him. Then it started to change. I started to get horrible private messages on Facebook, people were saying they wished my son and I were dead, it was awful.

"I just didn't get why people have to message such nasty comments. The messages really hurt, strangers were saying to me that I was a bad mother and a bad parent. It was awful, especially as I brought him up by myself."

In his first interview since leaving just hours after a row over Paige with Adam Collard, he admitted he was ready to "break down".

He told The Sun he left as he feared he would attack Adam, saying: “I thought if I don’t get myself out things could go horribly wrong and I could get physical.”

The 23-year-old also claimed that producers had kept hold of his phone for two days after leaving the villa.

A Love Island spokesman told the publication: “We cannot comment on any individual’s medical records. However, we have rigorous and extensive checks in place to assess Islanders’ physical and mental health in advance of being cleared to enter the Villa.

“This is something we take extremely seriously. Jacques made the decision to leave and we respected that decision. We would never put pressure on someone to stay in the Villa.”
