Love Island ’s Shaughna Phillips has donated £1,000 to help buy a wig for a woman undergoing cancer treatment.
Leah Smith, from Liverpool, has been diagnosed with cancer for a second time, and her friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to buy her a luxurious wig made from real human hair.
Leah, 20, lost her hair during her first round of brutal chemotherapy when she was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, and her friends said losing her locks “absolutely broke her”.
“We would hate her to feel like that again so we have set up a go fund me to make enough money to buy Leah a real human hair wig so she can still feel just as fabulous while beating cancer for the 2nd time,” they wrote on the fundraising page.
They said that with any money leftover, they would treat Leah to a day out at Manchester’s Trafford Centre, where they would go for lunch and indulge in a “crazy shopping spree where she can get everything she has ever wanted!”
Shaughna reached out to the fundraising campaign, and made a generous donation in order to give Leah a well-deserved treat.
“We love you Leah! Treat yourself to something amazing,” she wrote, alongside the £1,000 donation.
And thanks to her efforts, the total raised now stands at more than £3,800.
Leah has been sharing her journey on Instagram, and recently posted an update of her health struggles, as she told her followers she had been hospitalised ahead of having chemotherapy.
“Dealing with this at 20 years old for the second time is so hard. And my mental health has took a huge toll. But yeah I definitely won’t stop fighting. I don’t know if I will beat this but I won’t stop trying to beat it,” she bravely captioned the post.
“You strong girl,” Shaughna commented on the post.
Singer and YouTube star Sophia Grace also sent her well wishes to the teenager, as she wrote: “I love you Leah , you will beat this again your so strong keep fighting.”
Shaughna, 27, shot to fame after appearing in the winter Love Island 2020, which was filmed in South Africa before last year's Covid lockdown.
