Love Island’s “misogyny” row continues, after 3,617 complaints were made to Ofcom in one week.
It comes as the show’s 2019 winner Amber Gill got into a spat with contestant Luca Bish ’s sister, who is receiving death threats about her brother’s behaviour.
During the show’s Movie Night, where Islanders are shown clips of their partners they hadn’t previously seen, viewers saw Luca kick off over footage of Gemma Owen he claimed showed her “flirting” with contestant Billy Brown, who got the boot last night.
He says at the time she denied there was flirting, and now he “looked like a mug” for asking about it, and said he was “fuming”.
But some viewers claimed his reaction was “misogynistic”, while others complained about the behaviour of Davide Sanclimenti toward Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu, with 2,481 complaints lodged about Sunday’s episode.
A further 417 complaints were made about Monday night’s episode, amid accusations Luca and fellow Islander Dami Hope were “bullying” Tasha Ghouri. They have both since apologised to the tearful model.
Women’s Aid has contacted ITV about what the domestic abuse charity considers “misogyny and controlling behaviour” on display. Luca’s sister Claudia became embroiled in an online spat with former winner Amber, who called Luca and Dami “public enemy no. 1”. But the behaviour sparked appalling threats from trolls directed at the contestants and their families.
Claudia, who teamed up with other families to beg trolls to stop sending threats, has paused running Luca’s social media accounts. ITV raised their concerns about the “highly damaging labels” being put on the young Islanders, and said the welfare of contestants and loved ones was its “greatest concern”.
Complaints have also been lodged about sister show Love Island : Aftersun.
Ofcom is assessing complaints and has not yet made a decision on whether to investigate.

James Blunt
“Spinal Tap meets Alan Partridge”, it’s claimed, as James Blunt hires Bros’ documentary makers to chronicle his appropriately titled Greatest Hit Tour.
The self-deprecating You’re Beautiful singer is billed as an “ageing, British pop star, still fighting for relevance some seventeen years after his star momentarily twinkled”, and jokes: “In hindsight, I’m not sure letting them film this was a good idea.”
And James is clearly in on the joke for what promises to be “a brutally honest story of a painfully self-aware, endlessly touring musician, for whom persistence eventually prevails”.
Boris Johnson
Celebrities reacted in a similar way to a lot of us when Boris Johnson said his mission was “largely accomplished” at his last PMQs, before adding ominously: “For now.”
“If the mission was to be the worst PM in history,” cheered comic Kathy Burke, while Piers Morgan scoffed his Terminator 2 reference was “a suitably ludicrous end to an absurd premiership”.
Ex-Women’s Hour host Jane Garvey quipped: “Goodness knows how far this Johnson fella could go if he had a scrap of self-confidence.”
