It took just minutes of her making her Love Island debut for fans to declare Maya Jama the 'perfect' host for the show, with viewers praising her energy and enthusiasm, hours after she vowed to do them proud.
Weeks after the last series of Love Island ended, now ex host Laura Whitmore announced she was stepping down from the coveted TV role. Uploading a picture of her going into the Love Island villa to Instagram Laura wrote: "Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects."
While stars like ex Love Island finalist Maura Higgins and comedian Emily Atack were all mooted as potential hosts, the Love Island gif ended up going to Maya, who has previous presenting experience from the likes of The Circle and Walk the Line.

In the hours leading up to her first appearance on screen as Love Island's new host, Maya took to Twitter to post: "it’s nearly time!!! 9pm @LoveIsland hope I do you all proud"
Maya entered the Love Island villa after the boys as Love Island suffered ITV2 'blackouts,' wasting no time in getting stuck into some banter with them, before leading the first coupling up and, by the show's ad break, many viewers were in agreement that she was already doing a brilliant job.
Giving her a firm seal of approval, one tweeted: "@MayaJama 2 minutes in and already know she’s 100% the best choice to host," with a second, in agreement, posting: "Yeah, ITV have definitely pulled it out the bag with getting Maya Jama in - definitely the best host they’ve had on the show."
Likening her enthusiasm to that of late host Caroline, another commented: "Maya Jama is literally the best Love Island host she is giving Caroline Flack and I am here for it"
