Love Island's Kaz Crossley behind bars in Dubai after drugs arrest at airport

Former Love Island contestant Kaz Crossley has been arrested in Dubai and is being held in custody on suspicion of drug offences.

The influencer, who was a contestant on the 2018 series of the ITV dating show, was detained at Abu Dhabi airport in transit for a flight to Thailand, writes The Mirror.

Her arrest comes after a video of her snorting a suspicious white substance at a party emerged two years ago. It is understood that Kaz's name was flagged to the United Arab Emirates authorities who are reportedly still looking into the footage.

The video of Kaz was said to be filmed during lockdown when she jetted out to Dubai to escape the UK covid restrictions.

In the clip, the 28-year-old can be seen leaning over towards a side table, on which lines of a white powder appear to be laid out on.

She wore a bright orange dress and nude heels.

According to The Sun, after her arrest on Monday, Kaz was refused a phone call her family.

In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, there are strict laws against alcohol and drugs and the reality star could face a minimum of three months in jail and a £5,000 fine if found guilty of taking or possessing drugs.

In Dubai possession of drugs, even residual amounts, are severe and punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment as the UAE has a zero-tolerance for drugs-related offences.

A source told The Sun: “She was looking forward to getting back to Thailand where she has been doing voluntary work and all of a sudden she is languishing in a Dubai jail.

"Everyone knows how strict they are about drugs over there. She must be terrified. She had only stopped off in Abu Dhabi to catch a connecting flight but her name has obviously raised a red flag."

The insider went on to say that after she was arrested, Kaz was allowed to send just one email but wasn't allowed to make a phone call to her family.

They added: “She messaged one particular friend whose email she could remember and asked her to inform her family that she was OK but had been arrested for drug offences. The arrest wasn’t because of anything she had on her. As far as we know it is all down to that video.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office told the publication: "We are in contact with the local authorities following the arrest of a British national in the United Arab Emirates."

Kaz's representatives have been contacted for comment.
