Jacques O’Neill has vowed to wait for Paige Thorne and asked her to be his girlfriend as he tearfully quit Love Island.
The rugby player had been seen making various attempts over the last couple of days to win back his love interest Paige after his Casa Amor flirtation was revealed.
But during Tuesday’s emotion-charged episode, the 23-year-old made the decision to leave the villa.
Speaking to Paige before packing his bags, he said:“I want you to be my girlfriend. I want that. I’ll wait. I’ll be counting down the days until you get out.”
Tearful Paige was comforted by the other girls and told them she “supported” his decision to leave.
She said: “I support what he’s doing because I know he’s not being himself. He does have the biggest heart in here. But this makes my life so much harder.”
Gathering the other islanders around the fire pitt, Jacques said: “Lately, I feel like I can’t be myself. I’m not going to fake it. I’m going to be leaving today.
“I just can’t stick around and not be myself, it’s not fair to me and it’s definitely not fair to Paige. If that means removing myself from the situation and waiting for Paige, that’s what I’m going to do.”
As he said his goodbyes, Adam Collard stood up and asked: “That’s not because of me is it?”
The girls then told him: “No, don’t think like that.”
Earlier in the episode, Jacques was seen having a blazing row with the bombshell after other islanders had told him Adam had been “sl***ing” him off and had called him “immature”.
“Who the f**s he?” he said to Paige. “Just another geezer who’s been on the show. He’s f**ing nothing mate. Do you know what I mean?”
When Paige attemped to calm him down, he replied: “You know what I’m like. If a boy’s gonna chat s**t behind my back, I don’t f***ing have it. If he tries to speak to me, I’ll say ‘f*** off, don’t speak to me’.”
