Love Island's Gemma Owen is show's real winner as she tops rich list

Gemma Owen is set to earn a fortune once she leaves the Love Island villa - despite not winning the show.

Tonight, Ekin-Su and Davide were crowned the winners of the eighth series. Gemma and her partner Luca Bish finished second.

But while Gemma may not be a Love Island champion, it's likely she will pocket a lot more than the £50,000 prize money.

Gemma's first source of income will likely come from Instagram adverts. Honcho has analysed how being on the show has affected the contestants' potential earnings through sponsored Instagram posts as of the final week, and how many hours they would previously have had to work in their occupations to earn the same amount.

Gemma, who was an international dressage rider, could expect to earn an average hourly rate of £136 before the villa. Now, the 19-year-old is able to request up to £8,796.50 per post on Instagram thanks to her followers reaching 1,100,000 - the equivalent of 64 hours of work.

However, Gemma is also set to make a fortune through her swimwear range. An insider told the Mirror : "Gemma has such a wise head on her shoulders. With the Owen name, she already has a big profile which brands want to tap into. And her own swimwear brand, OG Beachwear, will be sure to get a big boost."

Gemma set up OG Beachwear in 2020. She said she was inspired to start the business after struggling to find "luxurious and classy swimwear" on the market.

In a blurb on her website, Gemma explained how she created OG Beachwear. She said: "After studying Business and researching the swimwear fashion industry and what it would take to develop a swimwear collection, in 2020 I decided to go for it. For the following year, during the height of the global pandemic, I planned and developed the idea and OG Beachwear was created.

"In recent years I’ve personally found it difficult to find luxurious and classy swimwear garments that have a luxury feel with a youthful edge and so this was the inspiration to create my label. My aim is to offer a brand that provides luxury, designer quality garments that ooze class with a hint of youth and sexiness.

"At OG we aim to provide a one stop beachwear shop for men and women to find all holiday resort wear and accessories that encompass the luxury vibe"
