Love Island's Gemma, 19, 'most mature girl in the villa' says comedian Russell Kane

Love Island's Gemma Owen may be only 19, but comedian Russell Kane reckons she's more mature than a lot of the ladies on the show.

The daughter of Michael Owen is coupled up with Davide Sanclimenti, 27 and has concerned many fans with her young age.

But Russell reckons the wannabe billionaire knows exactly what she's doing and people shouldn't worry about her.

Taking to Instagram, he said: "Everyone's getting hung up that this Gemma bird in Love Island is only 19 years old and Davide is 27.

What happened to taking people as you find them, by not being prejudiced in advance by an accident of someone's birth?

"The girl's 19. She can join the military, get a mortgage and she's far more mature than most of the other girls in there and than most 30-year-old men I know.

"She's going to absolutely run rings around Davide. Did you hear the way she's speaking to him?"

Russell then recalled the dressage rider telling the Italian she wouldn't tell him if she liked him.

He finished his impassioned plea: "Don't worry about her, she's absolutely fine. She's like a sperminator - process, accept, reject."

Much has been made of the considerable age gap between Gemma and chiselled hunk Davide.

At eight years her senior, many viewers got the ick after he chose to couple up with the brunette in Tuesday's show.

In fact some fans were so incensed they threatened to call Ofcom.

But other viewers reckon Gemma could dump her current love interest after the star’s shocked reaction to Liam Llewellyn ’s double date bombshell.

The equestrian looked concerned during Thursday night's episode, after a text told the Welsh wonder he had dates with the two new Islanders.

The arrival of two bombshells – actress Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and lounge hostess Afia Tonkmorin – means the girls in the villa could be under threat, with one likely to say 'adios' on Friday.

But viewers are now convinced Gemma will realise Liam is a fan favourite and attempt to win him back as a result.

Taking to Twitter one fan predicted: “Prediction: the new girls come into the villa and take interest in Davide, Davide puts his eggs in their basket, Gemma realises and goes running back to Liam.”

While another warned: “Gemma's face when Liam got chosen for both dates...now she knows he is popular with the public she will go running back...don't fall for it Liam.”

Love Island continues tonight on ITV2 at 9
