Love Island's Ekin-Su laughs off Dancing On Ice curse as she's paired with show's bad boy

Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu has laughed off Dancing On Ice curse claims as it was announced she has been paired with skating hunk Brendyn Hatfield.

The Love Island winner – who is still with her boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti – has already dubbed herself and Brendyn the ‘dream team’.

She bragged she hadn’t fallen over on the ice yet and put her impressive balancing skills down to “training in bed” with Davide.

Taking to Twitter, the 28-year-old said she wasn’t worried appearing on the show would split her and her Italian stallion boyfriend up.

Mocking the claims, she joked: “Oooo I’m so scared the curse oooooo.....

“Bahahahhahahah... oh I love it. Me and Davide are laughing at the comments.”

While Ekin-Su is seemingly happy with boyfriend Davide, Brendyn is a married man.

The 36-year-old American met wife Jessica Hatfield, who is also a professional skater, when they starred in Disney on Ice productions together around the globe.

Love blossomed when Jessica was Jasmine to Brendyn’s Aladdin.

Jessica is also a reserve dancer on the ITV show, which means she is on hand to fill in for any professional who is unable to perform throughout the series.

Brendyn hasn’t been linked to any curse claims himself after being paired with ITV newsreader Lucrezia Millarini, British rapper Lady Leshurr and Strictly’s Brendan Cole since he started on the show in 2020.

But the same can’t be said for his Dancing On Ice co-stars.

Vanessa Bauer, who is partnered with TOWIE’s Joey Essex in the new series due to start in 2023, has seen three of her male celebrity skating buddies suffer break-ups after hitting the rink with her.

In 2018 she won the show with X Factor star Jake Quickenden, who split with girlfriend Danielle Fogarty shortly afterwards.

He later said their breakup was “totally separate” adding: “It had nothing to do with that at all. The Strictly curse is only a curse if you let it.”

A year later Love Island star Wes Nelson blamed the demanding schedule of Dancing On Ice for his break-up with Megan Barton Hanson after being paired with Vanessa.

And in 2020 Emmerdale actor Joe-Warren Plant, who played Jacob Gallagher in the ITV soap, reportedly split with his long-term girlfriend Nicola Hadlow after spending too much time with Vanessa.

A source said at the time the couple had been “under pressure” since Joe started rehearsals.

“They’ve been rowing a lot so decided it was best Joe move out. It wasn’t what he wanted... but his dedication to the show put their romance under pressure," the insider told The Sun.

Corrie star Samia went on to marry pro partner Sylvain (ITV)

Other couples who split after appearing on the show include EastEnders star Matt Lapinkskas (Anthony Moon) and co-star Shona McGarty (Whitney Dean).

The couple announced their breakup during the series and it later emerged Matt was dating his dance partner Brianne Delcourt, but he claimed there was no crossover with Shona.

Brianne also dated Coronation Street actor Danny Young (Warren Baldwin) after meeting on the show, although they had different partners, before moving on with EastEnders’ star Sam Attwater (Leon Small), who she won the series with in 2011.

Corrie star Samia Ghadie (Maria Connor) and pro partner Sylvain Longchambon got married meeting on the show shortly after splitting with other partners.

They welcomed son Yves Joseph, now seven, in 2015 and tied the knot in 2016.
