Love Island's Amber Beckford confesses she hasn't watched show for years ahead of stint

Love Island 2022 contestant Amber Beckford has revealed that she hasn't watched the ITV2 reality show for years.

The 24-year-old nanny from London will be moving into the plush new villa in Majorca next week in the hope of finding love this summer.

Speaking about previous series of Love Island, Amber told The Mirror and other press: "I definitely think, as I've gotten older, I haven't watched the show as much.

"With the earlier series, I was a very dedicated watcher. In the last few years, definitely, in the summer, I've been away myself and haven't been able to keep up with it as much as in previous years.

"But it's hard to not know what's going on because it's popping up," Amber continued.

Asked if she thinks her name stands her in good stead to win, in a nod to previous Ambers on Love Island, she replied: "I have no idea, but let's not jinx it!"

Amber has promised to cause some chaos when she enters the Spanish abode on Monday 6 June and gave her verdict on what her family and friends would think to describe her as.

"Probably fun, outspoken, crazy. Most likely, a 'wild child!'" she admitted.

Amber also hinted she could step on a few toes if she found her ideal man, adding: "With regards to Love Island, it is a show to find love. Girl code is definitely important to me, but I think it’s that balance isn’t it - I’ve got to put myself first!"

Speaking about why she decided to apply for the popular reality show, Amber said: "I think it just feels like the right time. This year it definitely feels like it’s two feet in. I feel like now I’m most definitely ready, and wanting to look for a boyfriend."

It's been confirmed that the new series of Love Island will kick off with viewers being in complete control as they have the chance to choose the first couple via a poll on the show's app.

*Love Island starts at 9pm Monday 6th June on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
