Love Island favourite Tasha was told to 'die' by vile online trolls while at school

Love Island favourite Tasha Ghouri was bullied at the age of 14, she previously revealed.

The 23-year-old North Yorkshire lass - who is the show's first ever deaf contestant - was targeted by vile online trolls on anonymous platform Ask.FM, during her time at school.

Model and dancer Tasha revealed she would receive abusive messages from people who told her to "get cancer and die".

Tasha and her dad Tarek appeared on BBC News back in 2012, where they discussed the constant online hate and abuse she received from anonymous users.

The pair explained the extent of the hate, with Tasha fighting back by starting a campaign at her school at the time.

"My daughter was being abused online," her dad told the show. "I researched it and was horrified to see ask.fm allowed anonymous posts. I felt compelled to do something.

"I raised awareness with the school because even though it happens out of school the impact happens in school."

Tasha added: "Some of the comments were, 'Go and get cancer, you don't belong here, go and die, go and hang yourself, you're flat chested, your family's ugly'.

"It's horrible things. One of my friends has now gone very quiet. She has no idea how to handle it. She's really upset by it — I know she is."

Tasha - who wears a cochlear implant, which she says is her superpower - is planning to donate half of the £50,000 Love Island cash prize to a charity for deaf children, if she wins the competition this summer.

Ahead of her stint on the show, she said: "If I did win Love Island my plan is to give 50 per cent of it away to The National Deaf Children's Society, I have raised money for charities before and it's something I love to do and to give back."

Speaking about her disability, she told Mail Online: "I was born completely deaf. My parents found out when I was 12 months old, I got a cochlear implant when I was five, which was quite late on.

"Growing up I had to overcome a lot of obstacles, I've had speech therapy, a lot of hearing rehab but overcoming those obstacles has made me who I am today."

Tasha is a fan favourite on the reality show.

She gathered her fellow Islanders around last night to tell them about her superpower.

Tasha said her hearing loss does not define her and it is indeed her superpower.

*Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
