Love Island fans are 'so happy' after Gemma saved Davide, from Manchester, in a shock recoupling on Sunday evening. At the start of the show, (June 19), contestants at the Spanish villa were stood around the firepit as the girls chose which boy they wanted to couple up with, leaving one boy single and dumped from the island.
Gemma Owen, 19, had originally been paired up with Luca, but he was snatched from her hands by Danica Taylor, 21, leaving her forced to choose another male contestant. She opted to save Davide Sanclimenti, 27 a business owner who is from Rome but now living in Manchester, who she had previously been coupled up with earlier in the series.
Viewers were quick to point out how the shock decision 'made their night'. @luciemccarthy07 wrote "THANK U GEMMA IM SO GLAD DAVIDE STAYIN", as @ellamenapeecue tweeted "GEMMA SAVED DAVIDE OMG IM SO HAPPY."
@joshnufc__ said "gemma picking davide to keep him in has absolutely made my night", as @TotallyTonio "Gemma has soared up in my estimations for saving Davide yes girl."
@xadoresmg tweeted: "gemma saved davide from being dumped I'M SO HAPPY" and @xIreneValantiax penned: "So happy Davide is staying! Gemma did well!"
@Twiss95 wrote: "Gemma saving Davide. What a redemption story" and @jenimeli said; "Gemma only picked davide as friends to save him. Good on her."
Making her decision at the firepit, Gemma said: "Obviously the boy I wanted to couple up with has already been taken" before she picked Davide to stop him being dumped from the island. Following the recoupling, Gemma's previous partner Luca said he 'wanted to stay true' to himself and admitted he wanted to sleep in a separate bed to new partner Danica.
He then went on to say he 'couldn't see it happening' when discussing a possible romance with Danica. "But you are a lovely girl and it will be nice to have you around the villa," he added.
It comes a night after 27-year-old Italian business owner Davide Sanclimenti appeared to dump actress Ekin-Su Culculoglu, also 27, branding her a “liar”, after it emerged she had been sneaking off to spend time with new boy Jay Younger. Following Sunday's recoupling, Manchester rapper and model Remi Lambert, 22, was dumped.
