Love Island fans have been left furious after a major element of the ITV2 dating show was dropped from the live final at the last minute.
Love Island bosses axed the fan-favourite final twist from the show for the first time.
Usually, the Love Island prize money stands at £50,000, but once host Laura Whitmore has revealed the winners, they are asked to pick an envelope each – one of which contains £0, while the other holds the full £50,000.
Whoever has the envelope with the prize money in it is then asked whether they want to split it with their partner and receive £25,000 each, or if they want to keep the £50,000.
The final Love Island twist is intended to reveal once and for all if the Islander was on the ITV2 show for love or money.
None of the Islanders in previous seasons of the show have taken the bold and brutal decision to pocket the full cash amount themselves – and now they may never do so.
Love Island fans were left perplexed when Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu were crowned 2022 winners, but Laura never mentioned the question, with the programme instead abruptly ending.
Taking to Twitter to respond, one fan wrote: “No split or steal??????? No stick of twist?????? No last nothing???” as another posted: “Disappointed with no stick or twist.”
A fellow fan asked: “Wait they don’t do stick or split anymore? Wowza,” as another posted: “Omg they’re not doing stick or steal question???? c’mon guys wtf.”
“Sorry, they got rid of the stick or split thing the ONE YEAR that it was probable that davide would split and say “I AM A LIER AND AN ACTORESS!”,” another disappointed fan posted.
However, some fans were happy to see the question ditched, with one writing: “THANK GOD they scrapped the “stick or twist” money stupid, pointless concept.”
In the final episode of the ITV2 dating show, the villa garden was beautifully transformed for Monday night’s Love Island 2022 Summer Ball, which saw the Islanders arrive in their finery.
As they took their seats for the evening, it was up to the couples to one by one read their declarations to each other – romance, tears of joy and emotion abounded as each couple expressed their true feelings.
The final four in the Love Island villa going into the final were ultimate winners Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu as well as Gemma Owen and Luca Bish, Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope and Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page.
Ahead of the dramatic final, the bookies were backing Davide and Ekin-Su for the win to take home the prize money.
The fan favourite couple were odds-on favourites to go all the way and be crowned champions of this year's series of Love Island.
Befred had the Italian business owner and the Turkish actress as 1/8 on to win the public vote this evening – meaning gamblers would have to part with £8 in return for winning an additional £1!
The gambling company also predicted the fiery couple may become the first couple not to split the £50,000 cash prize – with both stars down as 25/1 to steal the prize money if they win.
