Love Islander fans were left cringing as Gemma Owen’s mum Louise entered the villa on Sunday evening as part of the Meet the Parents special.
As Gemma and Luca Bish sat down with their parents around the firepit, the international dressage rider’s mum brought up the apparent resemblance between her dad and the Brighton fishmonger.
Gemma Owen was reunited with her mum Louise and pal Sarah after her dad Michael Owen confirmed earlier this month that he would not enter the Love Island villa.
But despite his absence, he came up in the conversation when mum Louise said she had seen people on Twitter remarking on the England striker's resemblance to Luca.
She said: "It's all over social media that Luca looks like your dad."
As Gemma cringed at the comment and Luca laughed it off, viewers were left stunned at the awkward comparison, which had some uncomfortable implications.
Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Why would they say that Luca looks like Michael Owen like it’s a good thing that she fancies her dad lookalike.”
A second said: “Not the family saying Luca looks like Michael Owen?? Freud has never been wrong!”
A third posted: “Anyone else find it weird how they think Luca looks like Michael Owen?”
Another tweeted: “Luca getting gassed being called Michael Owen look-like,” alongside a crying laughing emoji.
Another wrote: “Not them gassing him up "you look like Michael Owen" I know this was the highlight of Luca's Love Island experience.”
However, several viewers were left wondering where the resemblance was as they asked who had compared the two.
One wrote: “How can they gas Luca and say that people on Twitter are saying he looks like Michael Owen ? Which Twitter….”
Another wrote: “Haven’t seen anyone say Luca looks like Michael Owen,” as a third tweeted: “Which social media is saying Luca looks like Michael Owen? Because they are lyingggg.”
“Wait, which one of you is saying that luca looks like michael owen??” another wrote.
Louise also referenced her striker husband as she explained that he's “really proud” of Gemma and has been watching the show.
Louise assured: “Honestly, he is really proud of you, really proud.”
Before adding of the family: “They’re all loving watching you, they’re missing you like mad.”
