Love in the air at Wishaw care home with St Valentine's Day celebrations

Love was in the air at one Lanarkshire care home earlier this week with a day of celebration.

St Valentine’s Day at Beechwood Care Home in Wishaw saw staff and residents enjoy music, freshly baked treats and a football match together.

Songs played throughout the afternoon, with residents singing and clapping along to Chris de Burgh’s ‘Lady in Red’ and The Proclaimers' ‘I’m Gonna Be’.

Staff members served up plenty of chocolates, cupcakes decorated with bright red hearts and a cake for all to enjoy.

Residents made Valentine’s Cards for staff members, including their Fit-Baw instructors Paul Mooney and Seamus Duggan, who had led a session of gentle football earlier in the day.

Cathy Togneri, service manager, told Lanarkshire Live : “Valentine’s Day is always a lovely event for everyone in the home.

"Relatives get in touch with their loved ones, even if we haven’t always been able to organise visits in the last two years.

“It’s always great to see our residents join in on the fun and our colleagues make every effort to put on something special for them.”

The home’s activities co-ordinator Helen Miller added: “We love organising activities like this for the home.

“Everyone gets involved and it really puts a smile on our residents’ faces when they join in on the singing or enjoy the cakes – you know your hard work has paid off when they go back for a second helping.”
