Skyla was a much-loved dog who had lived with her owners since being a puppy, but due to a change in circumstances they could no longer keep her. Skyla arrived at Dogs Trust Manchester a few weeks ago, and has settled in well - but at the top of her Christmas wish list is a new forever home.
The four-year-old American Bulldog is proving to be an affectionate, playful girl who loves her cuddles, is a big fan of food and walkies, and has stolen the hearts of volunteers at the Denton-based centre.
Skyla is looking for a private secure garden to play in with her new family and would like to be the only pet in the home. She is super friendly so can live with children 12 years and over, as long as they are comfortable with a bigger dog.

Dogs Trust Manchester Manager, Lisa Eardley, said: “Skyla is a big, bouncy and lovable girl who is looking for a lovely home to settle into once more. She loves to play in our compounds but also likes heading out on walks, exploring and sniffing to her heart’s content. She loves tasty treats and playing with her toys as well. She is great fun and we know she’d make a lovely canine companion.”
The charity added: “Skyla will need at least one female adopter in the home, as she can be nervous around some men, but since being at the centre she has been good with male staff members.”
As Christmas approaches, Dogs Trust is urging people to remember that ‘A dog is for life, not just for Christmas’, and is hoping that if people are considering welcoming a dog into their life in the coming months, they choose to adopt a homeless hound.
Adam Clowes, Operations Director, said: “We will make sure that every dog in our care has a wonderful Christmas but,unfortunately, due to the increasing costs of everyday living, many dog owners are currently having to make very difficult, heart-breaking decisions when it comes to caring for their dog.
“Our kennels are at capacity and we are concerned that as fewer people can afford to welcome a dog into their life, we will face a housing crisis for dogs in the coming months, which is a tragedy for both dogs and owners.
“We understand the pressures people are facing but we would encourage anyone that is looking for a four-legged friend to share their life with, to consider adopting one of our gorgeous dogs and give a dog in need another chance to be happy at the heart of a loving home.”
