A Louisiana fire chief has been charged with driving under the influence after police said he crashed a district truck into a fire hydrant.

Louisiana State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash at 12:15 p.m. Saturday involving a DeSoto Parish Fire District 1 vehicle, which was unmarked but equipped with lights, according to a press release.

Fire Chief Mark Magee, 39, had been driving the vehicle, a 2022 Ford F-250, when police said he lost control of the vehicle and the truck ran off the road, crashing into a fire hydrant, as reported by KSLA.

Police said Magee presented signs of impairment, so a blood sample was collected and submitted for analysis. Magee was later arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first-offense DWI and careless operation of a motor vehicle.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
