Louise Redknapp joins Friends musical cast - 25 years after rejecting US sitcom

Louise Redknapp is set to join the cast of a Friends musical to eventually make her first appearance on the hit show.

The singer turned down the chance to be part of the iconic US sitcom in 1997 after electing to go on Top of the Pops to perform her solo debut single Naked instead. The former Eternal band member was cast to play Ross Geller's wife Emily Waltham but was ultimately replaced by fellow Brit Helen Baxendale.

For three nights in September, Louise is set to appear in the Southampton-based musical, which packs all 10 series of the hugely-popular comedy into one superb stage show.

According to The Sun, Louise will make a guest appearance at Southampton's MAST Mayflower Studios for the parody production of Friendsical, which is already a hit idea with cult fans of the popular US show.

The 47-year-old is set to perform in a number called Richard's Moustache while on stage. The former So You Think You Can Dance judge has recently opened up about why she is yet to date following her split from her ex-husband Jamie.

Louise and Jamie were together for 19 years before announcing their decision to part ways in 2018 and she revealed that her two sons, Charley, 18, and 13-year-old Beau were the reason for not getting back on the dating scene, while the former England international has since got remarried to Swedish model Frida Andersson.

Louise explained to Hello! : "I've felt this as a mum and, to say this in the most sort of respectful way, my boys' lives changed dramatically and then it changed again when obviously Jamie got married and had a family.

"Their life changed and I felt like I needed to be their one staple. That's just something I think a lot of mums would feel."

Jamie and Frida welcomed a baby boy called Raphael Anders Redknapp together in November, while Louise has yet to step out with a new man although she is in no rush.

She added: "If Mr. Right, turns up then great and if he doesn't I just carry on doing me. I'm not putting that pressure on myself and I feel that it's really important for women that are out there on their own, and men, that should be able to be enough [without] that pressure of having to be in a couple."

The Mirror has contacted Louise's reps for comment.
