In 1997, Louisa Chiaramonte was a newly single mother of three with no degree, no computer skills, and no professional history to speak of. What she had was a cover letter. In it, she promised a local agency she would do anything the job required. If their dogs needed walking, she wrote, she was in.
She got the job. Nearly three decades later, the company she went on to found, AVI Media, has been ranked among Canada's fastest growing businesses, and Chiaramonte has collected two Stevie Award along the way. The distance between those two points contains more catastrophe than most careers could absorb: a hostile takeover attempt from within, a liver resection, a near fatal dog attack, and the loss of a child. She rebuilt through all of it.
