Louis Saha believes Chelsea's Edouard Mendy would make 'perfect sense' to replace David de Gea at Manchester United.
De Gea is now into his twelfth year at Old Trafford after signing from Atletico Madrid in 2011 but is into the final few months of his current contract. United hold the option to extend the deal by a further 12 months but opted not to when they triggered the same clause with Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Fred and Diogo Dalot recently.
That's because the club have opened talks with their loyal shot-stopper over a new contract instead, talks which De Gea believes will "end in a good way." Yet, in the case of his unexpected departure, Saha has named his ideal replacement.

"De Gea is still right at the top level, but of course making mistakes like he did against Everton is never good," Saha told BoyleSports. "Over the years, De Gea has done tremendous performances to save the team and he deserves the time and credit for that.
"If De Gea doesn’t sign a new contract then a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy would make perfect sense. He has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world the last few years and I’m not sure what happened."
Mendy joined Chelsea in 2020 and made an instant impact by helping them win the Champions League. However, he has struggled for form this season and lost his place to Kepa Arizzabalaga before suffering a long-term injury.
When asked about his contract situation last month by the MEN, De Gea said: "Yeah, I'm very relaxed. "Just focus on training, perform as best as I can. But, for sure, it's going to end in a good way."
"I hope so," he replied when asked if he was confident of seeing out his career at United. "I was saying this is my club, I've been here many, many years and it's a huge honour to be here and I'm so happy here."
