Lottie Ryan said she and her family felt their dad Gerry was with them on her sister Bonnie’s wedding day as she told how they try not to focus on the sadness of his absence on happy occasions.
Lottie’s younger sister Bonnie married her long time partner John in an intimate civil ceremony in front of their families in Dublin on March 4th, in the same registry office she married her husband Fabio Aprile in 2017.
“It was a gorgeous day, the two families hadn’t been together in so long. It was meant to be last year so we were all well ready for it,” Lottie said of the family affair.
And she added that whilst they included their late dad, broadcasting legend Gerry Ryan, who passed away suddenly in 2010 in the ceremony, she explained that they try not to focus on the sadness of his death during positive events in their lives in the time that has gone by.
Lottie told RTE Guide: “I think to be honest, at this stage, it’s not that you don’t think about him, because obviously, there are moments you think about him, like in the registry office he was spoken about and you wish that he was there to see it.
“But we’re also at a point where you feel he is there.
“We don’t focus on the negative. We focus on the day itself and it's good to be able to be in that place. He wouldn’t want us to be thinking of him not physically there.”
The 2fm host is the maid of honour for the special occasion, including their long awaited wedding abroad in early summer and is in full wedding mode planning and preparing her speech for the big day.
She said: “She did such an amazing job with mine so the pressure is on. I’ve to do a speech as well, so I have that in my head, I just haven’t put pen to paper.”
The new mum, who welcomed her first son, Wolf, eight months, last summer, said that the ceremony earlier this month was her first night out in two years.
She added: “It was great to get the two families together because the two families actually haven't been together in a long time and it was my first night out since having a baby. It was really great."
