There was a long queue to get into the new Poundland this morning and when the doors finally opened, fans rushed into to experience the popular chain's biggest store in the UK.
It wasn't long before they were coming out happy either, with everyone Nottinghamshire Live spoke to saying how good the experience was.
Julia Simmons, 43, from Bulwell, said; “It’s so nice in there, it’s so clean and new, it has a a fantastic range of items.
"I’m happy with what I’ve got, got some nice cheap candles and some toys for the kids, it’s a great time out
"Will definitely come again."
Georgina Bacon, 34, and Josh Bacon, 12, from Colwick were there for the opening too.
She said: “My husband works here so we’re here to support him.
“I use Poundland and we’re excited to see the biggest UK store
"It’s got good deals and can be really cheap."
Sisters Samantha and Beth from Broxtowe said they were pleased to be there.
“We’ve come here for the opening," they said.
"Not only is it the biggest store in the UK but it’s such good value for money in these difficult times.
"You can get little bits and bobs, everything. We’re here to have a browse.
"We know on opening day the shelves will be full
"We go to the city centre stores we absolutely love it. It’s always worth going in."
The new store at Nottingham Riverside retail park is the largest store yet to be opened by Poundland and over twice the size of a typical 6,000 sq ft Poundland store.
The Nottingham Riverside store will also be home to Poundland’s biggest team to date, with 75 full and part-time colleagues, all ready to make sure customers get a fantastic shopping experience.
Sue Huffton, 51, agreed with that and said "It’s been great. We’ve got some clothes. It’s a nice clean store and we will definitely go back."
More than a third of the space will be dedicated to PEP&CO, allowing it to offer the biggest range from the UK’s fastest growing clothing brand – now one of the top 20 clothing retailers in the UK in less than seven years since its launch.
As well as womenswear, menswear and kidswear –the PEP&CO Home department will include the very latest 2022 ranges including new kitchen storage options, faux plants, bathroom accessories and soft furnishings.
Barry Williams, Poundland managing director, said: “Nottingham Riverside sets a new standard for Poundland. It’s our biggest and best store yet and it means we can offer a wider range than ever before, from longstanding Poundland favourites to new items that our customers are going to love.
“Our colleagues have worked flat out to get this superb store ready. But the story doesn’t stop here, because we’re already working on a new store at Teesside Park in the north east.”
Poundland’s Nottingham store was formally opened by some of the East Midlands’ tallest people – 7-foot tall Morakinyo Williams and 6ft 2-inch Kyle Jimenez - basketball players from the “Hoods” – the Nottingham Hoods Basketball club.
