Lost American diner chain that served 'belly-busting' portions on '13-inch plates'

A lost American-themed diner chain known for its large portions and cheap prices had "the Midas touch" once called Liverpool home.

Years ago, many families in Merseyside and beyond will remember having a meal at Fatty Arbuckles, a restaurant chain founded in 1983 by Pete Shotton, an associate of The Beatles, and business partner Bill Turner. Named after Hollywood silent film actor and Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle director, the business opened its first diner in Plymouth before expanding to London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester - and of course Liverpool.

The restaurants had a retro Hollywood theme and served large portions of American-style food at cheap prices, often on 13-inch plates . Diners at Fatty Arbuckles could choose from a wide variety of meals, including combos, jacket potatoes, burgers, salads and lighter bites, baguettes and, of course, big, tender juicy steaks.
