Los Angeles Innocence Project Takes on Scott Peterson's Conviction

Scott Peterson convicted for killing his pregnant wife seeks new DNA testing.

In a recent development, the Los Angeles Innocence Project is delving into the conviction of Scott Peterson, a high-profile murder case that captivated the nation in the early 2000s. Peterson was found guilty in 2004 for the murder of his pregnant wife, Lacey Peterson, and their unborn son. However, in 2020, the California Supreme Court overturned his death sentence, leading to the Innocence Project's involvement.

The Innocence Project is arguing that crucial evidence was withheld during Peterson's initial trial. This has prompted them to request new DNA testing on several items, including a 15.5-inch length of duct tape found on Lacey Peterson's pants, 50 inches of long tape and twine tied around the neck of the unborn child's remains, a target bag, duct tape, and a tarp from where the remains were discovered. The organization contends that either these items were never tested or that advancements in DNA technology may yield new results.
