Lorry pull raises money for Ian's 'life changing' MS treatment

Friends and family of Lisburn man Ian Shannon came together last weekend for a lorry pull to raise money to fund his potentially life changing MS treatment.

Ian was diagnosed with MS in 2004 and since then, the former lorry driver's condition has deteriorated leaving him wheelchair bound.

Earlier this year, Ian spoke to Belfast Live about his condition and said that he hopes this treatment would eventually allow him to walk his daughter down the aisle.

"The truck pull was a great day and we had about 20 taking part," he told Belfast Live.

"So far through the truck pull we have managed to raise £1,000 so that is us happily on the way and we have to plan what we are going to do next.

"We are just thankful to Wheatfield Decorative Stones for loaning us the truck for the pull."

Those who signed up to raise the money for Ian's treatment which included members of the local Young Farmers, pulled the truck from Banbridge Baptist Church to Fane Valley Stores Banbridge.

The money raised will go towards an infusion treatment which has been offered to Ian in the Cayman Islands.

"I was told recently that I would be eligible for this treatment but it is not available here on the NHS," he previously told us.

"MS has progressed so much that the only way forward that I can see is to get this Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy.

"The kids might want to go for a walk and I can't go with them because I can't get back up the hill as I am in a wheelchair.

"This is a one off infusion in the Cayman Islands which would hopefully allow the stem cells to replace some of the tissue and substantially reverse some of the damage that has been done by the MS.

"Hopefully if I get this treatment, I will be able to kick a ball with my son, dance like nobody is watching and one day, walk my daughter down the aisle."
