Lorraine's Ranvir Singh under fire from Strictly fans for 'insulting' remark on Hamza Yassin's win

Ranvir Singh attracted criticism from ITV viewers on Monday, as her interview with Strictly Come Dancing star Helen Skelton was branded 'insulting' to the show's winner Hamza Yassin as she suggested his victory 'wasn't without controversy.'

It is often customary for winners of shows like Strictly., Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity to appear on shows like Lorraine in the aftermath of their victory, however, it was Helen and not Hamza who appeared to be interviewed by Good Morning Britain anchor Ranvir on Monday.

Hamza and Jowita's win on Strictly was documented in a clip of their winning moment after Lorraine's first ad break, but, while describing CBeebies star and wildlife cameraman Hamza as 'pure sunshine and joy in a single man,' stand-in presenter Ranvir swiftly moved onto say: "Their win isn't without a little bit of controversy, with so many people saying they wished Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez had actually lifted the Glitterball.

Ranvir, herself a former Strictly contestant, then eluded to Helen's tough year, following the breakdown of her marriage to now ex husband Richie Myler, months after the birth of their youngest child. She told Helen: "People loved Hamza, of they did, it was a public vote, but so many people wanted you to win for them; so many people have been through what you've been through and you represented so many people who needed to put their life back together. I applaud you for what you've done."

While Helen was very gracious in defeat, saying she 'just wanted to make her kids proud,' plenty of people watching Lorraine were angry on Hamza's behalf at the tone of Ranvir's interview,

One took to Twitter to post: "I think it’s in very poor taste that #lorraine has interviewed Helen this morning, inferring that she should have won. The public didn’t want her to win, they wanted Hamza." Taking the same stance, another viewer tweeted: "I mean I do agree the interview should have been left till after Christmas and it is a bit offensive to Hamza. But just because hamza won doesn't mean every single member of the public wanted him to win like you're implying. I didn't vote for him."

A third questioned: "Helen danced better on the night but Hamza was consistently better and topped the leader board many times, it doesn’t just go on one night

out of the past 3 months," while defending Hamza, a fan reacted: "Hamza was the rightful deserving winner."
