Inside Lorraine Kelly's 1.5 stone weight loss that helped get 'va va voom back'

Lorraine Kelly has become a source of inspiration for many after losing 1.5 stone and cleaning up her diet following lockdown.

For many, lockdowns were a time of indulgence. This was the case for the ITV star who said that she got into the habit of eating junk food which led to her weight creeping up.

The 62-year-old was keen to slim back down to a size where she felt more comfortable. She said those around her were telling her that she looked okay, but she admitted that she felt "tired and a bit dimmed".

The Glasgow-born broadcaster says that she is sure many feel a similar way after the past few years, and has made a point to share the weight loss journey that she made with WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers.

Lorraine added that weight loss is not about cutting things out completely, but instead being more aware of what you eat.

In terms of exercise, the 62-year-old simply clocked in 10,000 steps a day, which she did with the help of her beloved pup Angus.

Speaking to the Express about her new eating habits, Lorraine said: “It isn’t a stupid, silly diet because diets don’t work, as we know. It’s just about making little changes. We all know what is good for us, we all know what we are supposed to eat, so it is about getting that balance right.

"I'm not bored or miserable and thinking about food all the time, just eating well. The thing I do actually, well Steve does because he is a much better cook, he makes a massive bowl of really spicy vegetable soup on a Sunday and I have that for my lunch Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and then he makes another

"I don’t have it every day for lunch but I find that it really fills you up if you are hungry and a banana isn’t going to do it for you. That’s my tip, that and not to beat yourself up if you do have a chocolate biscuit, for goodness sake it’s not the end of the world!

"But it doesn’t mean that you have to have 20 bags. Just say, right, I had that, big deal, move on. There is nothing wrong with having a biscuit with a cup of tea, it’s fine, it’s just about getting the balance.”

Lorraine also shared a post during her weight loss journey, describing how she tackled one of the hardest parts of the slimming process. Of course this will vary from person to person, but for Lorraine it was cutting down on chocolate.

She says that she did this by using WW's low calorie chocolate spread, which she dips fruit into. The spread is just 71 calories per tablespoon.

In an Instagram post she explained: "Here’s a really good healthy snack, I love this. You take some WW chocolate spread, pop a little bit on a plate.

"Then get yourself a cut-up banana and dip it in the chocolate, And it’s brilliant! And you can do it with strawberries as well," Lorraine cheerfully added.

After months of hard work, the presenter reached her goal of dropping one and a half stone and two dress sizes. She announced this on her Instagram in a picture where the 62-year-old can be seen with a beaming smile.

The ITV star also recently dropped jaws at the TV BAFTA Awards red carpet, with Lorraine saying that she feels like she has gotten her "va va voom back".

Celebrity Ambassador Coach Suzy Stirling also shared the news of Lorraine's achievement on Instagram, telling her thousands of followers: "oweeee! What a day! Please join me in congratulating @lorrainekellysmith for getting to Goal and reaching WW GOLD STATUS!!!

"Lorraine has dropped 21lb resulting in two dress sizes from a size 14 to a comfortable 10. I think you’ll all agree with me that she looks amazing.

"@ww.uk and I couldn’t be prouder of how hard Lorraine has worked and how dedicated to the plan she has been. Her efforts really have paid off and her smile says it all. Well done Lorraine."
