Lorraine Keane opens up about menopause, turning 50 and refusal to hide 'wobbly bits'

Lorraine Keane has opened up about the menopause as she celebrates turning 50.

The glamorous TV presenter said: "I approached turning 40 with fear and didn’t fancy it all.

"But I am embracing turning 50 big time. I love the fact that we are talking about menopause now.

"But the only documentaries that are out there at the moment are about HRT," she told Woman’s Way.

Lorraine is part of The Menopause Cafe series which are free morning events where she joins experts such as Dr Mary Ryan and nutritional therapist Sarah Brereton. The series will be in Carlow and Limerick next month.

"We will cover all 40 symptoms of Perimenopause and Menopause and ALL options available to women from HRT to natural health, nutrition and lifestyle changes," she wrote on Instagram.

The Dubliner joked that she no longer cares about her "cellulite" and doesn’t mind who sees her "wobbly bits".

"I will jump into the sea in a bikini all year round.

"We all have parts that we try to hide, and I just don’t do that anymore, which is really liberating."

Lorraine has just returned home after a romantic holiday in Chateau la Coste in France with musician husband Peter Devlin. She says she feels grateful about getting older.

"My husband and I have lost five friends in the last eight years who were either almost 50 or had just reached it.

"I’m so lucky and blessed to have good health, so you have to give thanks and be grateful."

The pair share two teenage girls, Emeila (19) and Romy (16).

"When they were little, you could just drop them into the buggy or strap them into the car," she said.

"I used to think that was the most difficult time but, actually, the teenage thing can be just as challenging in different ways.

"The other thing is that you don’t really sleep until they’re at home, tucked up in bed."
