Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley diagnosed with 'aggressive' cancer

Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an "aggressive" cancer.

The 64-year-old dancer, best known for Riverdance, updated fans on his health using his Instagram account. He let his followers know that he had undergone surgery for the illness and was being looked after by doctors.

The post said: "Dear friends, we have something personal to share, Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He has undergone surgery and is in the care of an excellent team of doctors. No further comments will be made at this time."

It added: “We ask only for your prayers and well wishes. Thank you. Teamlord.” Alongside the message, the team shared a black and white image of Michael looking out to sea while stood on a beach.

It is unknown if the diagnosis is linked to his previous battle with skin cancer. Michael was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma in 2003, which he revealed eight years ago for the first time. In July 2021, he appeared on Loose Women to speak about his new lease of life after he narrowly avoided incurable cancer thanks to his secretary, who spotted a mark on his face just as he was about to jet off on a trip that would have left him no time to treat it.

He said he had the cancer removed and the scary reality is he could have been facing it if he was diagnosed a few weeks later. Appearing on the show, he said: "It's a sad reality. I don't know how I didn't notice it. I had a big mark on the side of my face and my secretary Thomas was watching the interview that I was doing and said boss don't you think you should check that out?

"I had no intention, I was in Vegas but we flew to LA the next day and he made an appointment and I went in to get it checked out, I was flying to Barbados the next morning. The next morning the doctor called and said can you come in and see me. I explained I'd be back in two weeks and he said, 'no, no I need you to come in right now."
