Jane McDonald was thrilled as she was confirmed as the new host of the British Soap Awards.
The ceremony was originally set to be presented by Phillip Schofield. However, the 61-year-old stepped down when he quit ITV last week after he admitted having an affair with a runner while working on This Morning.
He said: "I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me."

It has now been confirmed that former Loose Women star Jane McDonald will host the ceremony, which will take place on June 3. She said she is excited to take over as host for the event.
The 60-year-old said: "Oh my god…..everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale, so this is just a dream come true. I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them - roll on the awards, I can’t wait!”
The soap awards sees Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks battle it out to win recognition over the past year. The event will be broadcast on ITV this Tuesday on ITV and ITVX
