Loose Women star called out for 'disrespectful' tweet after Friends actor Matthew Perry's death

Janet Street Porter has been accused of being insensitive after a tweet she made following the death of Friends star Matthew Perry.

The Chandler Bing actor died aged 54 in an apparent drowning at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday.

A number of celebrities paid tribute to Perry following his untimely passing, including his Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox.

Loose Women panelist Street Porter, 76, however caused outrage with her own response.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday, she said: "Am I the only person who has managed to live a fulfilling life without watching Friends?"

While rubbing people up the wrong way isn't anything new for her, people were quick to respond with outrage and questioned why she felt the need to criticise the show at this time.

"I haven’t either, but I am showing respect to the cast and viewers by not posting anything irrelevant or disrespectful to them," fumed one person on the micro-blogging site. "Remember the Be Kind campaign?????", referencing a social media campaign that was launched back in 2017.

"No but you’re the only one who feels the need to tell everyone love," penned another. "Maybe let people enjoy what they want to enjoy and remember a wonderful actor, bless your heart."

While a third replied: "I don’t think you are able to understand just how much this show was the background to a lot of our lives, sure it may not have been your thing but it really was/is escapism and a warm comforting hug away from the reality of life. Try it, it just got better and better."
