Ruth Langsford warned her Loose Women co-stars and viewers at home of a potential 'interruption' to Monday's show, within moments of it starting, as she predicted there might be a 'news flash' on the contest to the Prime Minister.
:Long-serving presenter Ruth, who made her This Morning comeback over the summer, was back at the helm of the lunchtime discussion programme, to head up a panel also featuring Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter and Jane Moore. As cameras started to roll at 12.30pm, many eyes were on Downing Street, as the race to be the next Conservative leader and the country's next PM heats up.
The big news on Sunday night was that former PM Boris Johnson, who only resigned from the position a few months ago, had officially pulled out of the leadership contest, having jetted back from luxury holiday in the Caribbean to put his name forward. The big favourite to succeed Liz Truss is Rishi Sunak, Johnson's former Chancellor, who finished second to Truss in September's leadership battle.

By Monday afternoon, it was being reported that Sunak had the support of 'more than half' of Tory MPs and, after she teased what else was coming up on Loose Women, Ruth remarked: "So, politics again. When is it not politics? The race for the new Prime Minister continues. Now, last night former leader Boris Johnson dramatically pulled out of the race, saying to would not 'be the right thing to do.'"
She continued: "Rishi Sunak is the favourite to replace Liz Truss and could do by the end of today, but House of Commons leader Penny Mourdant is still in the contest; she's racing to secure 100 MP backers by the 2 o'clock deadline, so she hasn't got very long."
Foreseeing an interruption to Loose Women should there be any major political developments, Ruth added: "Actually, they're saying anytime during our show, something could change again. We might hear, we might get a news flash, who knows?"
She then asked the panel if they thought Rishi 'had it in the bag,' to which Janet replied: "I really do hope he has got it in the bag, as what the country needs now is someone who is cam, collected, consistent and considerate, but most of all knows what they're doing. We Just can't go on like this."
