Loose Women's Linda Robson fumes that Baby P mum 'should be sterilised' amid release

Loose Women’s Linda Robson has fumed over the Parole Board’s decision to approve the release of Tracey Connelly, the mother of tragic Baby P, last month.

Baby P – 17-month-old Peter Connelly – died in agony, suffering a fractured spine and eight broken ribs in 2007.

In a case which shocked the nation, the youngster was found in a blood-splattered cot at home in Haringey, North London, having sustained a horrifying 50 injuries over eight months.

Connelly, her lover Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen were all jailed.

Connelly was handed an indeterminate sentence and was released in 2013. But she was recalled to jail in 2015 after breaching the terms of her licence by selling naked pictures of herself.

The Loose Women panel - of Charlene White, Linda Robson, Jane Moore and Coleen Nolan - discussed the Parole Board’s decision to release Connelly on Monday afternoon and the chat quickly became heated.

Panellist Jane said: “There comes a point where, if somebody is deemed to have done their time and you believe in the prison service being a process, she has to be able to come out and get on with some sort of life, but it must be monitored.”

But fellow Loose Woman Linda was quick to push back, saying she does not believe Connelly can be rehabilitated.

She said: “If you’re that evil, if you can do that to your own child, if you can let that happen to your own child, there’s no way going to prison is going to take that away from you.”

Jane interjected saying: “But it’s about the danger to the wider society,” which Linda then interrupted saying she believes Connelly “should be sterilised”.

She added: “I don’t believe she should be able to have another child. Look what she did to the first child.

“She lived in a block of flats two turns away from where I live. There’s no way she could ever come back to Islington.”

Jane then responded saying: “I’m playing Devil’s Advocate here. Lets suggest she had a terrible childhood, she was poorly educated, didn’t have opportunities -”

Connelly, now 40, was jailed in 2009 after causing or allowing the death of her son Peter Connelly (PA)
Stephen Barker - Connelly's boyfriend - who was also jailed for his role (PA)

But Linda again cut in, saying: “But lots of people have had terrible childhoods. They don’t go on to do evil things like that to their child or let evil things happen to their child.”

This comes after Justice Secretary Dominic Raab has faced serious questions over why his department did not oppose a decision to free Connelly.

Paperwork seen by the Sunday Mirror stated that a junior official acting on behalf of Mr Raab “confirmed that this recommendation was accepted”.

Yet 14 days later, following public fury at the news, the Justice Secretary dramatically told parliament he would fight the decision to let the notorious mum out.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
